as a journalist, i get a LOT of emails about depressing news. but occasionally i get an email containing a story like this and it makes my whole day.

rebecca: Yes it is, and I knew it at the time. I overcame my visceral reaction for the sake of a more conversational tone. I was actually yearning to use a semicolon but felt it was too pretentious. The jury's still out on whether this will ever happen again, so you'd better savor the moment.
